looks like a WONDERFUL movie. i did post the trailer two post down, here, so go watch it! :D it's only about 2 minutes long. it's so sad :( it gave me shivers the first few times i saw it. u love the music that plays when it show Aki in a wedding dress. i am SO buying that movie!
the book is wonderful, too! Socrates in Love. ^^ here's some reviews from this page
Wonderful Philosophy and just plain sad...
Chrissy, a shojo addict, 08/20/2006
I got this book because i read other reviews and it sounded like something that appealed to me. Luckily, it was good and i read it in two days...the book is pretty short overall, but the story is WONDERFUL and, of course, it will make you cry several times. I highly recommend this book and i look forward to checking out the manga! (This best part is that it is all told from the guys POV). *tear
A Tearjerker To The End
Miyayuki, a writer, and a lover of literature, 04/10/2006
This is a very sad novel. I've read both the manga and the novel now and both had me crying at the end. 'Sekachu' is an excellent book that everyone should pick up.
Tears
Rebecca Morales, a high school journalist, 03/10/2006
I love the book. Kyoichi Katayama just captored the pure innocence of your first love. He painted his words with such detail that I felt as if I was expeirencing the same emotion that Saku felt for Aki. I was in tears from the moment I read the first to the last line.

actual reviews:
A sweet high school romance between an average guy and a beautiful girl has just gotten underway. But tragedy ensues when the girl falls ill with leukemia. A bittersweet tale of young love, enduring devotion, and heartbreaking loss, Socrates in Love is a story to cherish and nurture.
from here
I knew before I bought it that Socrates in Love would make me cry. My husband had one condition for buying it for me: that I was not to read it around him, as seeing me continually weep while reading this novel would break his heart. I ended up reading the book in one three-hour sitting; yes, it's that good.
Affectionally called "Sekachu" (short for Sekai no Chushin de Ai wo Sakebu -- "Crying Out Love in the Center of the World" -- the novel's Japanese title), this classic love story has inspired a manga series (the first volume available now from VIZ Media), a movie, and a TV show. "Sekachu" is the top selling novel in Japan, with over three million readers of this tale of innocent love and heart-shattering loss.
The story is quite simple. Sakutaro Matsumoto is a rather quick-witted, sarcastic and intellectual teenage boy. Aki Hirose is a cute down-to-earth girl. They meet in junior high school as class representatives, where they slowly fall in love and begin to date, seeing their future bright with each other, together. However, sixteen-year-old Aki suddenly gets sick, and she is hospitalized. The doctors tell the young couple that she has aplastic anemia, but Sakutaro soon suspects the truth: leukemia. He watches Aki's struggle with the disease, and her slow decline until her passing, after which Sakutaro has to learn how to keep on living without the love of his life. Running parallel to this timeless story of devotion is that of Sakutaro's grandfather, who has never forgotten his first love, even though he married and had children with another woman, and she with another man. Circumstances drove them apart, yet by combining their ashes, the star-crossed lovers will be finally be reunited after death.
It's a simple story, yet it opens the door to many philosophical questions about life, love, death, and whether there is an afterlife. Aki doesn't believe in an afterlife; she believes that the world has everything that you want or need in it right now, so there's no need for heaven. Since their love is so strongly present in the world, it will remain even after death. Sakutaro is somewhat skeptical of that belief, but as time goes on after Aki's death, he feels her presence in the world so keenly that it must be true. Aki lives on, along with their relationship.
I made it to page twenty-six before the floodgates of my eyes were opened, and they never really dried up until the end of the novel. I would recommend Socrates in Love for high school and older readers, not because of adult language, but because the novel requires the reader to have experienced something of love and loss in order to feel deeply the pain and happiness of Sakutaro and Aki. This book takes on new meaning when you have someone in your life that you love so much.
This isn't VIZ Media's first translated novel; that honor goes to Battle Royal. However, this does mark a growing movement by the company into the novel publishing market, with Fullmetal Alchemist: The Land of Sand and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence After the Long Goodbye also released in October, to be followed by Steamboy and Kamikaze Girls in the winter. As it is, Socrates in Love is a beautiful hardcover book, well-bound and free of printing errors, or at least none that were noticeable to me through the tears. Akemi Wegmüller has done a great job in translating the text; Sakutaro and Aki felt like actual teenagers with distinct personalities and quirks. The only addition that I would have made to this novel would have been including a forward at the beginning of the novel, something to introduce us to the world of Socrates in Love, or conversely, a more lengthy afterword than the one that the author provides us. The emotional trip that the reader takes feels all too brief, but then again, as Sakutaro muses, that's how life is. Time goes by too quickly when you're with someone that you love, and you end up at the place of parting seemingly in no time at all.

Maximum Ride: The Final Warning
Chapter 6
You’ve all seen the Capitol Building in Washington, DC, like on postcards, right? It’s the big white one with the dome on top that isn’t the White House. Anyway, it’s gigundo. We drove up in our black limousine, feeling like celebrities. Inside we were led through a series of hallways and stairs until we were in a large conference room with a great view of some gardens.
In the conference room, about twenty people sat around a big wooden table. Some of the people were in military uniforms. Everyone sat up and turned to stare at us when we came in, surrounded by Secret Service guards. I didn’t even know I wanted to hold someone’s hand until Mom laced her fingers in mine and gave a squeeze. Suddenly it all seemed better.
“Welcome. Thank you for coming.” A tall man in an olive-green uniform came forward and solemnly shook Jeb’s hand, then Mom’s, then all of us kids. “Please sit down. Would you care for something to drink? We have coffee, tea, soda, ice water . . . oh, and I see you brought your dog. A cute little Scotty.” He smiled uncertainly, as if wondering why someone had let an animal into the building. I bit my lip, wondering if Total was going to mouth off. But he didn’t, just seethed quietly and hopped up onto his own chair by Angel.
The next hour was like, “This is your life, mutant birdkids!” They didn’t have any pictures or film of us when we were little and still living in dog crates at the School. But the last six months were decently documented. They had films of us flying, way overhead, and footage of various fights with people, Erasers, and the latest heinous incarnation of enemies, the Flyboys. There was some footage of us just chilling, at Anne Walker’s house in Northern Virginia. It made me tense up and get mad all over again.
Last, there were about three minutes of choppy, grainy film that had been shot inside of Itex’s picturesque German headquarters. It showed me squaring off against Omega, poster boy for pathetic losers. It showed the riot that some of the clones started, and the angry crowds of kids outside, breaking through the castle wall.
It showed Ari dying.
The film stopped and the dimmed lights rose. Shades lifted automatically, revealing the large picture windows again.
Now I was in a totally rotten mood. It was bad enough that I was all dressed up like some fashion geek, but I’d managed to not think about Ari for about five minutes, and then I had to watch him die all over again. I snuck a glance at Jeb, who was white-faced, his hands clenched tightly around a pencil as he stared at the table.
“You six are most impressive.” A woman in a tailored gray skirt-suit stood up and poured herself a glass of water. She smiled at us all, but it was the kind of smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
“We’ve asked you to come here today because we’re very interested in your future,” said an older man. “We—the American government, that is--didn’t know of your existence until quite recently. Now that we know, we want to protect you and also explore whether we can useful to each other.”
They were certainly putting their cards on the table. Usually there’s a lot of mumbo jumbo about how special and unique we are, etc., but what they’re always really getting at is: can we make you do what we want you to?
So far the answer had always been, “Nope!”
The man paused, looking at us one by one, as if waiting for a response. He got none.
“One way we could be useful to you would be for us to create a school, a place where you could live safely.” A younger blond woman turned to us but aimed her words at Jeb and my mom. Like they made decisions for us or something. “You’re very gifted at survival, but there are significant gaps in your education. We could fill in those gaps, help you realize your full potentials.”
Again there was a pause, while the government people waited for us to jump up and down with excitement over the idea of going to school. School, was, of course, an unfortunate word choice on their part.
“To what end?” My voice was clear, no wavering.“Excuse me?” The young woman looked at me.“What would you guys get out of it?” I asked. “Besides the sheer joy of helping us fulfill our potentials.”
“We would get to study you, frankly,” said a tall, lean man who, I kid you not, looked just like Bill Nye, the Science Guy. “You’re like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The idea that human children can actually fly is mind-blowing. While you’re at the school, we could study you, understand the physical changes that enable you to fly.”
“To what end?” I asked again. “So that you can make more of us?”
The man looked genuinely surprised. “No,” he said. “Just to—understand.”
I decided I liked him. Too bad he was one of Them.“Okay, say you get to study us,” I said agreeably. “Somehow you get us to agree that it wouldn’t be a complete nightmare for us to be hooked up to sensors while we run on treadmills, or hold our own in wind tunnels while you film us flying. Then what?”
Silence.

does it annoy you ppls when all i post about is G?
12/13/07
well, get used to it. this is my blog, after all! :)
yesterday i was IMing girlnextdoor (as i said last post)... o told her that i was super super happy... she said "what, did G look in your direction?" i said "no! well... yeah, he did... but that's not the only reason i'm happy!" lol.
he talked to me again today. Not really any different from all the other days.
G: (talking in funny voice) My locker. *points to locker*
Me: *nod* Your locker. *points to my locker* My locker.
G: very good.
Me: *thumbs up* (i dont know why i did that...)
(we were both smiling ^-^)
^-^ squeeee! lol.
my friend, Kira, at my bus stop, she's a lower-classmate, told me that she finally worked up the nerve to ask out the boy she likes! and... he said yes! yay! go Kira! :D
i have been thinking about asking G out... but i'm not allowed to date, so i'd have to keep it a secret from my parents... and my friends seem to think G's really really weird/retarded. he's not!!! at lunch they were making comments about his tight pants (they are NOT tight! geez. just cuz he doesn't wear his pants so baggy that we can see his underwear, like 4/5 of every guy at my school, does not make him weird/gay! (Kira's friend said that he looks gay, at the bus stop after school... but she's a lower-classmate, too, she doesn't know him.) they are so mean... really! i wonder what they would say if they knew i like him... -_^ <--- (raised eyebrow)
a couple times i looked at him and he looked at me... it was so... i don't know... wonderful? he has beautiful eyes... i know, that sounds weird, talking about a guy, but he does! they're the same colour as Nudge-chan (not Anne! thisandthatfornudge.blogspot.com).
our buses park right next to each other @ my school, and he usually boards his first. i was talking to Kira, but it took me awhile to reply to her cuz... well, i was looking at him, kay?! gosh. he sat in a window seat. i thought i saw him looking in my direction, but i can't be sure. it looked like he was looking out the corner of his eye. i didn't stop staring cuz our eyes didn't connect, so it wasn't so weird.
i sososo want to ask him out... but how would he react? read the end of my last post. cuz i really would hate to get rejected... he would prolly go tell his jocky friends and they would laugh :'( *sob* but there is a possibility that he might say yes... but i doubt it. i can fantasize, can't i?

so, when i was little i was homeschooled. and i went to this co-op thing every wednesday for 8 weeks (i still remember that?!). we had classes... yaaa... ummm... oh! ANYways... well, i was talking to my mom the other day, and G got brought up (i really don't know how...). i mentioned his last name, and my mom was like, "[last name]?! Wasn't he homeschooled, too? Didn't he go to co-op with you?!" and i didnt remember... after i described him, my brother said "yeah! we went to his house once!" what the heck?! then i remembered! our moms went shopping at some homeschool store together and brought us!!! oh my gosh!!! i remember going into this play area!!! there was a security camera in the corner, and i remember G putting a little plastic toy pot or cup (i dont remember which) over it!!! we thought it was soooo funny! and then we went to his house!!!!!! OMG!!! we played in the woods for awhile (i remember going by a swamp)! and or some reason i remember a pink bike in the front of his house, and he said that it was his sister's!!! AND i remember him saying "yo! mom!" and thinking, who says 'yo'?! haha, that's very much like him. i wonder if he remembers all of this...?
now i must see if my brother is STILL in the shower... (if he is, i'm gonna hurt him!!!)

EXTRAS!!!
10/1/07

Okay, so Extras is released tomorrow!!! yay!!! I'm SOOOO happy!!!
uglies/pretties/specials regime. Without those strict roles and rules,
the world is in a complete cultural renaissance. "Tech-heads" flaunt
their latest gadgets, "kickers" spread gossip and trends, and "surge
monkeys" are hooked on extreme plastic surgery. And it's all monitored
on a bazillion different cameras. The world is like a gigantic game of
American Idol. Whoever is getting the most buzz gets the most
votes. Popularity rules.
As if being fifteen doesn't suck enough, Aya Fuse's rank of 451,369 is
so low, she's a total nobody. An extra. But Aya doesn't care; she just
wants to lie low with her drone, Moggle. And maybe kick a good story for
herself.
Then Aya meets a clique of girls who pull crazy tricks, yet are deeply
secretive of it. Aya wants desperately to kick their story, to show
everyone how intensely cool the Sly Girls are. But doing so would propel
her out of extra-land and into the world of fame, celebrity...and extreme
danger. A world she's not prepared for.

Giggle, Giggle
9/4/07
Sunday, when Angel came over, she decided that she really really wanted to pet Kitty Bud (my cat). but he hissed at her because he smelled Hunter (Jasper? Angel's cat). Kitty hid under my parents' bed... so Angel grabbed Kitty's treats and started making a trail from under the bed to us... lol. then she layed down on the floor and said "shhhh! i'm pretending to sleep!" of course, i couldn't help but giggle. lol.
he started comeing out, slowly... she said that we had to get out of his sight range, so we went out of the room... well, in the doorway. just BARELY out of the room, lol.
"We have to pretend to sleep!" she wispered loudly, and layed down on her stomach.
I giggled and copied her.
Of course, i had to make it seem realistic. So i "snored" (yes, i do actualy snore. very loudly, i am told). Angel giggled. I giggled. I "snored." Giggle. Giggle. Snore. Giggle. Giggle. Giggle. Giggle. Laughs! Snoooooore!
ah, yes. that is what my mom came upstairs to. two girls laying on the floor giggling hystaricly and snoring. my mom didnt know Angel was over already, and she said she thought i was going crazy or something... lol.
Actualy, i may go crazy soon. geez it's getting hot! oh.... that riiiiiight... i'm wearing a sweat shirt. ohhhhhhh... well, that may be the cause of the heat. i'm such a blonde. lol.
