in art class, we've been drawing our names in different ways. i'm not exacly sure how to explain it, but i'll give examples. I'm doing fruit. the C is a block letter with a strawberry sticking out of the curve, the O is an apple, the T is two bannana, you get the idea. one of my friends, Antonio, did his name out of animals (they're adorable!). a girl did her name really curly. another girl drew her name with pastels on a huge sheet of black paper... it's hard to explain what it looks like, so i'm not going to bother. but it's really cool. maybe i'll take a pic of the display case sometime?
anyways, today was our last day doing that. everybody was finishing up and mounting* their names to black cardstock-like sheets of paper. I have a long name, so I had to use two pieces of white paper to do it all (one says COUR, the other says TNEY :D). i WANTED to use two of the black papers to do it, but Antonio decided that the two white ones should be diagonal (okay, that's not the right word. more like, there's one peice on the top, and one underneath, but indented and overlapping a bit).
SOOO we glued those on and I showed the teacher. yeah. i should have sticked with my idea. cuz that's what he wanted me to do!!! he said that these projects should represent ourselves. then he made me go to the restroom and look at myself in the mirror. when i came back, he started talking about how i'm not typical, my tastes and interests are different from everyone else's, and when he looks at the way my project was mounted, he didn't htink it represented me at all. that's just a summary of what he said, he went further in depth and took a few minutes to say all of this. but it made me very happy. i try very hard to be different, and this was the first time someone reconized it in a good way (usually my friends tease me about being 'goth' and stuff. i'm not goth, btw.).
it was a mix of hunger (i didn't have breakfast this morning) and happiness that caused me to half-run to the lunchroom... i got yelled at ("Keep it under 25, Courtney!").
SOOO i had to go through this troublesome process of cutting my project in certain ways with the chop block, and tomorrow the teacher's going to help me re-mount it.
tomorrow we're starting pottery! YAY! lol in the beginning of the class, the teacher was getting the clay ready. he said that it came from the ground, and didn't have all of the oils that some clay has. then another teacher walked through the classroom (a shortcut, i guess), and the art teacher asked him if he wanted to play in the dirt with us :D
oh, my. this is a long post!
kay, it's getting abit late. i'm thinking about started a club on deviantart.com, and i need to get some things organized!
Courtney
*that's the word the teacher used
