What is the Midnighters?
A book series.
But, in a way, a whole lot more.
To explain this book series, maybe I should ask a different question:
What is midnight?
The moment that night turns to morning, correct?
Correct. And incorrect. Its more than a moment. It's longer than that. It's a whole hour. To the midnighters, at least.
You see, a long time ago, hundreds of years ago, there were 13 hours in a day.
You still with me?
Sure, 13 hours would cool. Except for one liiiiiitle thing. Actualy, things.
Darklings.
Darklings were these creatures. They knew your worst nightmares, the things you were most scared of.
And they made those nightmares a reality.
Well, not really. But they could morph into just about anything, if your nightmare was a creature.
And if it wasn't, and they touched you, they'd put things into your head.
They hunted humans. Until technology took place. Then humans could defend themselves.
The darklings got scared. So they squeezed one hour, the thirteenth one, into a moment. It passed by normal people, daylighters, in a moment. But the people who were born at the EXCACT moment of midnight experienced the secret hour. The blue time.
Why is it called the blue time? Because another moon rises, a blue moon.
The blue time takes place in Bixby, Oklahoma. Why just Bixby? We don't know. There may be another place or two, but the midnighters only know of Bixby.
Darklings are terrified of a couple things: the numbers 13, 39, and iron. It has to be clean iron, though. Never touched by anything inhuman. If you whisper a 13-letter word -a tridecalogism; also a thirteen letter word- to a piece of clean iron, it becomes a weapon to the darklings.
Now, on to the midnighters.
Rex. Seer. That's his talent. All of the midnighters have talents. His is that he can see where midnight touch objects, making them focused so he doesn't need his glasses. And he can read the lore, a place with symbols written by other seers. The symbols tell the story of midnight.
Mellisa. Mindcaster. She can read minds. Manipulate minds. And taste feelings. Sounds cool? Well, actualy, it majorly sucks. Escpecialy in crowded areas, like school. She always has headphones on during daylight to drown out the mind noise.
Dess. Polymath. She is very very very good at math. Which comes in very handy durning midnight, as darklings are terrified of math.
Jonathan. Acrobat. When the blue time comes, most of his gravity goes away, allowing him to fly. AND, if he touches anyone during the blue hour, his light gravity goes into the person whose hand he is holding, so they can both fly around. Well, bot really fly. More like huge, weightless jumps.
Jessica. Her talent? Well, that would ruin the first Midnighters book, The Secret Hour.
So, you intrested yet?
Oh, and one more thing. Jessica justed moved to Bixby, Oklahoma (count em, 13 words). But when she gets there, the Darklings go crazy. They are scared of Jessica.
But why?
Thanks True-Midnight.co.nr for this spiffy graphic. :)
